Fine Art Nude Photography Tuition
Tutorials can take place at your home, on location or in a studio. The practical sessions that follow can be at home using window light or your own flash units, on location using natural light or in a studio.
To achieve the best results from any shoot that involves a live model you will need to be familiar the use of your camera. When working in a studio this will include how to synchronise it to, and set the correct exposure for, studio flash. Models and studio hire cost money so you will need to have a preconceived idea of the images you want to create and the techniques you will use. Your creativity may still lead you away from these plans but fiddling with equipment and sorting out technical problems stops creativity dead.
Pre-Shoot Face to Face Tutorial
To help you I offer a pre-shoot face to face tutorial where we discuss your ideas, possible lighting set ups and the technical aspects of the shoot. I can give advice on booking a model and a studio if required. You will be doing this not me – this is all part of the learning process. I can recommend studios and models and provide follow up telephone or online support but the idea is that, at the end of the tutorials, you will be able to book, organise and conduct your own shoots. You will receive a free copy of my illustrated advice sheets Finding a Model and Using Window Light plus copies of check lists and model releases.
There is no obligation to use a professional model, I have a lot of experience working with clients who are not pro models, so a partner or friend could substitute (all models must be over 18). A lot of my photographs have been taken using window light at home so this is also an alternative to hiring a studio. I will also provide advice on use of a model release and proof of age ID. The pre-shoot tutorial lasts a minimum of one hour and costs £30 when booked with the practical session.
Practical Photography Session
The practical session is for you to capture images. You will not be sitting watching me take photographs. I will be there to offer help and offer guidance on posing, lighting and how to create a professional approach to your work. The practical session is for a minimum of two hours up to a maximum of four hours – I find most models and photographers are tired after four hours work and not really producing anything creative. I usually suggest a 10 minute break at the end of each hour to allow the model to relax and to review your images. It is also good to get the models feedback on the photographs – experienced models can often make creative suggestions.
Practical tuition costs £70 for the first two hours and £25 for each additional hour.
The pre-shoot tutorial and practical session can take place on the same day so a tutorial and two hour shoot would cost £100 (excluding any model or studio hire fees).
You will also receive a lot of lighting diagrams, advice sheets and guides.

Alternatively I can provide the pre-shoot tutorial and a post shoot review of up to ten of images for £70. This option may be preferable if you are using a partner or friend as a model. Please note you will need to include a copy of the model’s proof of age ID when submitting the images.
Things to note:
You will be responsible for paying any deposits required by studio hire companies and models directly to them. Your contract for these services will be with them so you will also be responsible for any cancellation fees.
I will not be liable for any cancellation fees payable to a studio or model if I have to cancel due to accident or illness but will provide a free review of up to ten images taken during the session.
In the event of a ‘no show’ by a model booked through a studio I will extend the practical session by up to one hour at no extra charge whilst a replacement is found.
No charge will be made to postpone any tutorial on one occasion providing a least 24 hrs notice is given. Cancellation of any tutorial with less than 48hrs notice will incur a 50% charge.
I do not routinely ask for a deposit but one may be requested when my travel exceeds 40 miles.
You are responsible for ensuring that any non-professional model you have booked is over 18 and has the appropriate ID (This will be discussed at the pre-shoot tutorial). No ID no shoot.
