Writing With Light

How to Photograph Nudes, Lighting

The word photography means painting, drawing or writing with light. It is impossible to make a photograph without light and the direction, intensity and quality of the light falling on and then reflected by our subject is what creates our images.

Nudes – A Different Point of View

Thinking About Nude Photography
nudes a different point of view

Millions of photos are taken from about five feet eight inches (1.75 m) above the ground because that’s the average persons eye line. Whether photographing fine art nudes, boudoir or glamour nudes it pays to look for a different point of view.

Twenty Nudes Number 16

Nude Portraits, Twenty Nudes

16. Emily

Emily was a talented nude figure model. She appeared on several Silvermoon book covers and in the Scrapyard Girls calendars. She always showed up at my studio in jeans and trainers so I included them in her portraits.

Two Sisters Nude Portrait

Two Sisters Nude Portrait. Reservoir Dogs was a very popular film at the time this was shot. The girls came up with the idea, sourced the props and styled their hair. All I had to do was light it, pose it and photograph it.

Twenty Nudes Number 12

12. Fiona

Twenty nude portraits of women that reflect their personality and lifestyle. Many of the images have been pulled from my archives and have been re-edited. When I did several shoots with the subject they have been grouped into a set . A new post featuring a different sitter will appear each week

Nude gymnast

Fiona had been turned down by several other photographs because of her disability.

Masked Nudes

Nude Portraits, Portfolios, Thinking About Nude Photography
Two masked nudes inspired by the painting by an anonymous artist of Gabrielle d'Estrées and One of Her Sisters.
Two topless women in masks. Inspired by the painting by an anonymous artist of Gabrielle d’EstrĂ©es and One of Her Sisters.

There is something intrinsically surreal about masked nudes. Everything is  displayed but we are deprived of the one thing that enables us to identify an individual human.
